Dear Class: Here comes October and with it the well-laid plans of our hard-working reunion committee ... not via this column, but separately and in glowing detail. So pay attention and please pay up—to Joe Bird, 50th Reunion treasurer and all-around weather ace.

Nice letter from Bob MacMillen, who has been in CA, ID, and ME thus far. Lee and I will probably have crossed paths with Crosbie and Bob when we're in the Boothbay area, visiting with Ben and Gene Bacon, up there from Florida (Sanibel) in midAugust.

We are sorry to report the passing of Col. George Sheldon, this past June. Our sympathies go to his family and friends. An obituary will appear in a subsequent issue. You'll be pleased to know that I had a very positive note from Jean Sheldon, appreciating the Memorial Book and expressing her continued interest in Dartmouth.

Stet Whitcher's brief on the Alumni College of this year has been condensed to fit. People there and passing through: JoeBurnett, Bill and Bett Cleaves, MaryBert and Al Gutman, Rudy and BarbHorky, Walt and Pat Kelley, Bud andEunice Koch, Howie Zagor, Gar andEleanor Ahley, Bob and CrosbieMacMillen. Also seen were Nick andBetty Turkevich and John and CarlaManley. Quite a nice mini, over the two weeks. China was approached from various angles: philosophy/religion, language/literature, and art. Joe Burnett won Lidos for tackling the 18-hour course on language. It became evident that Tienanmen Square was foreordained; those in power do whatever is necessary to retain it.

A copy of Frank Orenstein's latest mystery, "A Killing in Real Estate," was received, along with a bunch of good reviews. (I liked it—Ed.)

From The Daily Dartmouth, May 3, 1940: Page Smith '40 will star as Joe Bonaparte in the Players' production of "Golden Boy."

Tom George checked in by mail from Norway, where he paints each summer. All is well and he'll be at the 50th! He also has a base in the Cotswolds, in England, painting in Hidcote Gardens in Chipping Camden. Bob and Did Gensel came over from Long Island for a weekend of golf and fan with the Bowmans in July, then off to mark the wedding of the Bacon's daughter, Ann. Elmer Browne and Scottv Rogers send greetings to all of you, with good feelings about the 50th Reunion. We hope, earnesdy, that you will take advantage of what is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
