Those are sleigh bells you hear. We're on our way to Ho Ho Ho time and a [Merry Christmas to all! By now you should have received the first two mailings about our fabulous FIFTIETH. It keeps sounding better all the time! It is most important that you fill out and mail in the "INTENT" card. This has nothing to do with living in a tent, it's the card you will fill out to tell us how many are coming and whether it's firm or shaky. Please send it in so the committee can work out their budgets.
If you have lost the card, send the information in by letter. If you have forgotten the address, mail it to me or Bob Austin. Please do it!
This is the first column since our September mini. We hope that the football scores have improved since them. Apart from that it was the best one yet, with more people from more places than ever before. In fact, there were so many that I don't have room to list all. I will mention Bob andPhyl Unangst, though, for the fine job they do as mini-reunion chair.
News from Sid Phillips out Wisconsin way: "Since retiring from teaching management courses at the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater last August, I have joined a group called 'Score' (Service Corps of Retired Executives). We assist local firms and Wisconsin companies with their various business problems on a free basis. It's fascinating work overall, and with some 45 members, someone can usually throw light on any given problem." Sid had just returned from Colchester, Vt., where his son Carl had him hard at work on a patio extension. Hey Sid, you're supposed to consult, not work.
I had to send this little note in a bit early, because Lee and I are taking off for a few weeks to visit England and take a walk in the Cotswolds. Looking forward to it! Recent Vox from the College contains a sort of summary for the big planning effort design to position Dartmouth for the Year 2000 and beyond. A massive effort.
You didn't ask, but my favorite Christmas presents are letters, postcards ... you can even FAX me at 203/434-3628. That's a hint. See you in 1990.
