Dear Class: I regret to in form you that you have all been penalized 15 yards for non clamantis and illegal holding out. Please write soonest. Keep your eye on the letters column for a nice statement from John and Carla Manley. Jay Heinrichs sent me a copy. They've become a solid part of the Hanover community.

Good news from Bud and Louise Hewitt.. . they have booked their rooms for the 50th and have signed up a cat sitter! Bud continues to be deeply involved with the scholarship fund of the Dartmouth Club of Northern N.J. He is also busy as head of the Hillsdale (N.J.) Our Town Committee and sent a clipping to prove it. Too bad the machine copy won't reproduce. And that reminds me to remind all of you to search for snapshots, memorabilia, films, whatever from "way back then." Let me know what you have. From The Daily Dartmouth of Friday, October 29, 1939: "Eldon Fox, and Allan Rosenthal, will attack Harvard in a debate this afternoon." And from the same publication on June 14, 1940: "Alumni Fund hits $89,000, 78 percent of quota, with 14 more days to go."

Every year the class officers report on their work to the president of the class, who in turn sends an overall report on the class activities to the College. I thought you might like to see the "additional comments" added to his report by our own Jack Little: "I am blessed with an extraordinary team of officers and committee chairmen . . . VP Johnny Moore who last year organized 1940's big givers at Squam Lake, resulting in pledges of $500,000 to be matched by the class for our 50th gift; Bob Austin, whose newsletters are full of grace and warmth and humor; Stet Whitcher, our meticulous and conscientious Boston treasurer; assiduous Ted Miller and Lloyd Blanchard and their group of never-give-up fundraisers; DickBowman, our punctilious secretary; GordyWentworth, who has raised over $1,000,000 in Bequests and Trusts; BobUnangst, organizer of increasingly successful mini-reunions; Ann Porter Berger, who corresponds with 83 class widows; JoeBurnett, utility outfielder, telethon coordinator, class photographer, and now editor of the 50th Reunion book; Bob and Crosbie Mac Millen who serve in loco parentis for all of us when we visit Hanover; and Elmer Browne and Scotty Rogers, reunion co-chairmen who are well along with plans for a fantastic 50th Reunion. How lucky can I be?" We can only add a plaudit or three for a hard-working president, Jack. OK, think 50th—and write ol' Dick!
