As we slip gently into late fall, we can be thankful for letters and notes in the mail bag. Frank and UrsWeber spent major time in their Houston home this summer, returning in late August for Urs's last school year to start in hometown of Ridgefield, Conn. Frank is consistently around 90 in his golf game (and in the afternoon he completes the back nine).

Pres. Alan writes newsy notes on his new stationery headed with Smith Barney. The conversion from Drexel Burnham was smooth and even his phone number is the same. He visited Bob and Abby Kirsch, who recently took a cruise though Poland and Russia. In Leningrad, Bob spotted a Dartmouth T-shirt, and came up with an enterprising Russian teenager selling black- market items. Abby took a photo of Bob and the boy—a few minutes later the police picked up the boy. Bob got cleanly away.

Bob and Nancy Motlong migrate with the seasons from Mehico to Tucson to Denver, long enough to watch the Broncos play football, and to do some writing. Bob has completed a 600-page volume on his family tree. He came across some Danish among the crowd. Does this include some cheese, raspberries, and huckleberries? Bob, traditionally a literate person, assures there are over 300 pages of pictures. A major effort, nice work Bob. The only other class historian we know is Carolyn Bingham who did a Binghams at Dartmouth history, ending with our own George.

News from Joe Marsh in Athens, W.V. Now a retired college president, he worries he may have missed some class news or mail, since the alpha listing had him under "P" for Pres. Marsh. Joe has been appointed a member of the board of directors of the State College System of West Virginia. This is the governing board for eight senior colleges and two community colleges. He left in August on a Dartmouth alumni trip to the Soviet Union. Good to hear from Joe, and we'll hope to hear details on the trip.

Joe and Karen Eisaman have been having their home in Beverly Hills remodeled to the extent they decided to summer in Newport Beach, Calif. Joe forwarded a photo of himself under a sign at the Balboa Island Pub. The sign— "Class of '47." That must have been good for a round of drinks. Joe's older daughter starts USC this fall, and their younger girl is a sophomore at Beverly Hills High. He also keeps in touch with Liz Colton, Al's widow—a true class friend.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
