Many have told us how pleased they were to receive the Glee Club's "Dartmouth Nostalgia" tape. This special reunion- year treat was thanks to Ed Brown and his solid treasury. HelenWells was one of those writing about it, and in correspondence I mentioned our "Dartmouth in the World" seminar at the U.N. That reminded her about the days when she and her late husband Dick were heavily involved in writing a paper on "The World We Want." It won a prize and led her to write and produce a play, "Come All Ye People," that Dick directed. By happy coincidence some of their ideas got incorporated in the U.N. charter! Wow!
Now here's your monthly update from the survey—this time, our hobbies. Gardening is clearly number one, over a third of us. Then woodwork, photography, or alumni activity are each regular outlets for 15 percent. Stamps, coins, writing memoirs, home construction, and art each occupy more than a dozen. Then for birdwatching look to Tom Beers, Sol Jacobson, DickCampen, and Bill Emerson. Al Cotton and George Sayre do weaving, Ed Bishop and Harlan Banks work on miniature scale models.
Then some one-of-a-kind hobbyists: Morton Foster collects match covers, EdMarceau is a beekeeper, Gard Brown does model train construction, Bill Eldridge collects jazz albums, Bill Judd is hooked on hooked rugs, and Ed Kaiser has been teaching rapid reading—maybe he could teach us at a future mini. Any more unique hobbies?
Laura Heath had to miss reunion because of a shoulder operation but hoped to get to Hanover before she shifts from Ohio to her winter residence in Stuart, Fla. The directory tells you where to find all the regular Florida residents, but second addresses are not part of the geographical listing, so look for second addresses in areas you might be visiting.
Class of 1934 topped the roster on the Dartmouth-Williams alumni trip to Russia this past summer. A classic photo showed Bob and Mary Engelman, Harry and PruGilmore, Herb and Helen Jackson, Lenand Jean Harrison cruising on the Volga River.
Keep moving around—and looking for '34s, like we saw on Princeton game TV.
