After just 57 years, what a wonderful welcome back to Hanover Bill Scherman I provided me by including in his newsletter cards addressed to me here at Kendal. I won't have to rework old notes or look for nostalgia items this time.
Some of you wrote that you are still working. Sam McCray is still giving reduced time to his law firm where his son is now active, and he and Marianna will house a grandson while he attends nearby Wright State U. BobOffenbach puts in three days a week and had a local group recognize him by naming its annual high achievement award the Offenbach Award. Dave Easton out in L.A. is trying to wind down his legal life but work he can't refuse keeps coming in.
Many of you have travel plans still alive. Bud and Jane Powell forget limitations and enjoy extensive travel, especially cruises, and often with their three children and nine grandchildren. Sam and Alec Carson are slipping off to Italy—that's why they missed our mini. There's a railroad trip in Mexico for Georgeand Giselle Collins this fall and then a Southeast Asia cruise. When back at their retirement place in California they connect with the Ed Klees.
Others find holiday excuses for get-togethers—like the Howard Gussenhoven family coming to beautiful Lookout Mountain for Father's Day with the Dick Houcks. The Jim Bayles swing from Florida to Michigan but manage to catch the George Ellises before their summer shift to Maine
It's hard to tell which is retirement home for some folks. The Harry Espenscheids have a Santa Barbara home now, but their horse farms back in Rockford, III., still claim most of their year.
Be sure to wear your '34 caps or name tags at any games you attend, and cheer us to another championship season.
