Old Hitchcock roommate Sam McCray, still practicing law with his son, keeps me informed on activities in our hometown. The big recent news from Dayton was the great Berry gift to Dartmouth for the new library building, meriting a big front-page announcement in the newspaper there. Our only regular resident of New Mexico, Jeff Jackson, was looking in his memory bank after correspondence from Van Thorne, and they remembered five '34's living in Plandome in the old days. They wonder whether any other residence community could top that.Let me know if one occurs to you.

Getting in my car recently, I heard a man nearby say, "I see 1934 on your jacket." He told me he's John Heston, nephew of our Molly Heston. I can't come close to Molly's news of her seventh great grandchild, but how many of you have had new grandchildren recently? I just had Jeffrey arrive in Bethesda, so my two sons have given me six, but no "great grand-Gruens" are likely for at least 12 years. Some of us are still active, such as StanSilverman in Lake Clarke Shores, Fla. He does his exercises before 9 a.m., then works, at his typewriter, on TV and movie projects.Keep tuned in for credit lines.

We have 44 percent of our classmates still around—not a happy statistic, but substantially ahead of national averages.

Where are we living now? When our new Directory comes out, I'll give you a further update, but as of last year: Florida was still number one with 45, Massachusetts number two with 42, New York number three with 31, and New Hampshire now number four with 20.

Then it's Connecticut 19, California 18, Illinois and New Jersey 14, Ohio nine. There are six in Pennsylvania and Maine; five in Vermont, Arizona, and North Carolina; four in Vermont, Delaware, Indiana, and Maryland; three in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, South Carolina, and Rhode island; two in Tennessee, lowa and Missouri.

There were 13 states with one—so we have residents in 39 of our 50 states.Enjoy wherever you are.
