Dear Classmates: We move back to Hanover this month where many pilgrims have returned to Mecca for the Yale game festivities. Between the class meeting, game, post-game party, and dinner, there must have been 53 '53s. There are always big groups from the NYC and Boston areas, but our long-distance travelers included Norm and Linda Carpenter (Minneapolis), Forrest and Alice Ander-son (San Francisco Bay Area), and DaveHalloran (Florida). Some of the pilgrims call the Hanover area home. That includes Russ and Margie Cook (Thetford, Vt.), Seth and Pat Carpenter (Lyme), Bill andNancy Johnson, Paul and Marilyn Paganucci, Don and Lillian Goss, Elsa Luker, Dick Dunham (all Hanover), Put andMarion Blodgett, Fred and Mollie Carleton (Etna), Bill and Betsy Chamberlain (Sunapee). Then we have the condo/second-home crowd: Jack and JodyZimmerman (Hanover), Mark and BobbySmoller, Harlan and Anne Fair (Wilder, Vt.), Bob and Carol Henderson (New) London), Tim and Judy Thomas (Eastman), Chris and Irene Chrisman (Quechee). In addition, Dick and Vivian Cahn, among others, are looking. All but the Thomases were present this weekend. If you're looking for housing up here, any of us will advise you, solicited or not.

Sons and daughters of '53 —of which we've had a bumper crop for many years are now on the wane, but Joe and TeriBurbeck from Rye, N.Y., were here to see their freshman daughter Ginny. Paul Corcoran's daughter, Claire, has just started at Tuck and that counts too.

John Kennedy, fitting nicely into his original '53 jacket, played in the band at halftime. At the dinner in Alumni Hall, Norm Carpenter moved right in and led the Dartmouth Gospel Singers in "Men of Dartmouth."

Your secretary is trying to keep up with retirements. Bill Gilges is edging into retirement from IBM as the executive-on-loan to the Kansas City Zoo. He's in charge of everything and says it's fascinating. BillHazelton has retired from Coopers & Lybrand, CPAs. Warren Wentworth retired from Haskins & Sells in Pittsburgh but, far from retiring, moved to the Boston area, joined Jim Porath's CPA firm which recently merged with Tonneson & Co. KenSewall, with GE in personnel work for 33 years (can anyone top that?), will retire in about two more. Joe Burbeck retired recently from Compton Advertising. CharleyFleet left Louisiana Land a few months ago. He and Jackie are living in their lovely home in New Orleans, but are also part of the Harbour Ridge crowd in Florida. Seth Car-penter retired from Union Carbide last year and came up here.

For those of you who don't read The Wall Street Journal, John Ammerman is now the chairman and CEO of Mattel, the big toy company in Los Angeles. John came up from the international side and has presided over a sharp turnaround. Barbie dolls are selling briskly in Moscow and Shanghai. I'm also happy to report that Gerry Grady has been annointed king (or its equivalent) of the Caribbean resort island of Jumby, just a few miles from Antigua. Rates start at $500/day. Credit cards accepted. No tipping, please.

I am sorry to report the death of ChuckCowap in Foster City, Calif.
