After a year-long struggle with Hodgkin's disease, Jane Awad '86 died last August 5 in Seattle, Wash. To honor her memory, Jane's husband, Shawn Borgeson '83, and her family, including Jody Awad '81, have established the Jane Dea Awad '86 Achievement Fund at the College. The fund will benefit Dartmouth women who have overcome some disability or difficult circumstance, or in some other way demonstrated qualities of leadership and character qualities Jane exemplified.
She was without pretensions, a fighter who believed that with hard work she could meet any challenge. She overcame dyslexia in earning her degree in computer science. And she also became a top tennis player. In her last year she fought in the same way, gallantly, and never complaining.
Jane would have loved what the fund stands for, the opportunity to help other women enjoy life at Dartmouth as she did. Her friends—and others who want to support her ideals are invited to contribute to the fund, care of Melanie Norten, Blunt Alumni Center, Hanover, NH 03755.
