The College Office of Financial Aid accepted the nomination of Herbert Anderson '91 by our bequest committee Curly Prosser, George Davis, and Jack Kenerson—to be the new Class of 1928 Scholar. In a letter to Curly, Linda Cole, assistant director of the office, writes: "With Bert's selection, the total number of Class of 1928 Scholars for 1988-89 is now six. The others are Anita Hamilton '89, Kyle Blood '90, Bret Megargel '901 Eagle Glassheim '92, and Sarah Pettus '92. The total scholarship amount for all of these scholars for 1988-89 is $48,350. The fine records and accomplishments of these outstanding students is a fitting tribute to the commitment, devotion, and loyalty which you and your classmates hold for Dartmouth College".
Both Bert Anderson and Bret Megargel are varsity lettermen on the Big Green football team. They also are track men and have distinguished academic records. In fact, all of the recipients of our financial aid have done and are doing well scholastically, probably even somewhat better than you and I did in our day, Joe.
I Eagle Glassheim '92 is a grandchild of Red Sanborn. Other grandchildren of classmates who have been recipients are recent graduates Mathew Glendenning '87, grandson of the late Jeff Glendenning, and Carolyn Salsgiver '88, granddaughter of Craig Haines. Carolyn presently is a marketing trainee with General Mills in Minneapolis.
Latest reports on Craig's health, incidentally, are encouraging. While Craig is recuperating, the good Doc Simonds is ably performing the duties of class treasurer.
A cheerful letter from Jack Herpel indicates that this fountain of wit and humor is still flowing at full pressure, a reminder of the years he served us well as Campaigner editor.
We regret to report the death of HoytThompson on January 6.
