It has been a very mild winter at my outpost in central Maine, but '6B Big Greeners seem to have remained nonetheless inactive during January, February, and March. Lots of hibernating going on out there, and not a great deal of news finding its way to your class secretary.
I did enjoy a telephone conversation with John Pfeififer a few weeks ago. Currently on leave from the Office of Management and Budget in Washington, John is working this year for Goldman, Sachs & Company in New York City. Although he appreciates the temporary change of pace, he does miss his family during the week. Cathy and the four children (preschool through junior high) remained behind on Capitol Hill, and John joins them, when he can, on weekends.
Also with Goldman, Sachs is Hank Paulson, a managing partner in the Chicago office. Hank and company received favorable press in a late December issue of the Chicago Tribune, as Hank explained Goldman's successful personnel practices and the company's distaste for hostile takeovers and leveraged buyouts. The article was good to point out, also, Hank's championship football days at Dartmouth and at Barrington High School in Barrington, 111, where Hank has returned to live with his family.
From western Massachusetts comes the good news that Peter Weston has sewn another stripe on his navy uniform. In and around his family and his work at the Bay Bank Valley Trust Company in Springfield, Pete has found the time to pursue a career in the U.S. Naval Reserve, and his leadership and accomplishments have earned him the rank of captain. Bravo Zulu, Pete!
