August 1 An exhibit titled "New England Silver at Dartmouth College: A Tribute to Frank Harrington '24" can be seen at die Hood Museum until August 20. The Handel Society's "Summersing" features Brahm's Song of Fate.

6 Teddy Bear Picnic will be held at the Bema.

12 Shriners' Parade.

15 The Handel Society performs Handel's Messiah.

16 MALS symposium: "Is the Plinet Really Doomed?"

23 Summer term classes end..

24 The College bought rum to compensate laborers who installed the bell in Dartmouth Hall in 1770.

25 In 1770 the College Trustees adopted "Vox Cla mantis in Deserto" as the official motto.

26 Summer term exams begin.

28 Dartmouth held its first commencement in 1771. Four students, all transfers from Yale, composed the entire graduating class. After the ceremony, graduates and guests drank rum.
