The weekend of July 15, Laura and Herb Roskind teamed up with Ann andGeorge Johnston to throw a party on Martha's Vineyard that earned a place high on the list of memorable classconnected events.

On Thursday evening the early arrivers June and Bob Macdonald, Sue and DickBurch, Shirley Schwarz, and Gittan andAdam Block with son Adrian '89 convened with the Johnstons and Roskinds for cocktails at Adam's parents' place in West Tisbury, followed by dinner at the venerable Lambert's Cove Inn.

By Friday night's barbecue at the Johnstons' summer home on East Chop, Ellieand Dave Cook, Liz and Jack Cramer,Beverly and Burt Foster, Happy andClark Griffiths, Joan and Jack Hall, Loisand Dick Mann, and Joan and DavidThompson had joined the group. An ominous rainstorm at cocktail hour cleared in time for a spectacular sunset over the water, and the weather was perfect from then on.

Most of the off-islanders stayed at the Wesley House in Oak Bluffs, but HowieKeller and Wendy Howland marked the beginning of their second year as Mr. and Mrs. by setting up housekeeping at Webb's campgrounds nearby.

In Tate afternoon the group was guided to the Roskinds' waterfront home by a well placed Dartmouth 1957 banner. During the pre-lobster-feed cocktails, Dave Cook found a way to crown the Roskinds' weathervane with his 30th reunion hat. After dark, Herb and his pyromaniac assistants shot off a lot of predominantly green fireworks, and some of the more nostalgic sang as many of the old beach party songs as we could remember, accompanied by yours truly on a ukelele which hadn't seen moonlight for many a year.

Sunday brunch at the Johnstons' wound up a weekend which we hope the hosts will be tempted to repeat forever.

You may have noticed that this column has chronicled yet again the doings of some classmates who appear more often than is completely fair. You can help redress this imbalance (and have some fun) by showing up in Hanover for the Dartmouth Night/Yale Game Weekend, October 13—14. It will be interesting to see how well (1) the class of '93's bonfire will burn and (2) President Freedman's speech will crank up the football team. Before the game you can make your views known or just drink silently at the annual class meeting and bloody mary tasting. Saturday evening we're going back to the restaurant at the Shaker Village on Lake Mascoma where, believe the old gourmet, we had a great time and great meal last year.
