At long last, the Alumni Fund Reunion figures have been tallied. Gifts and pledges from members of the Class of '79 totalled $194,568. We exceeded our goal by almost $20,000, breaking both class and Dartmouth records. Most importantly, 65 percent of the class contributed to the effort.
Don Castle has been named director of sales technology and administration for Nabisco. A graduate of Tuck, Don joined Nabisco as a financial management trainee in 1982. Since that time, he had held various positions with the company and in 1987 was promoted to director of sales planning.
I also received a press release announcing that Steve Dorvee has been elected a partner in Arnall, Golden & Gregory, an Atlanta-based law firm. Steve received his J.D. from Duke and is a civil trial lawyer specializing in commercial litigation and intellectual property law with an emphasis on franchise, unfair competition, trademark, copyright, and computer law.
Steve Blackmer is the director of conservation programs for the Appalachian Mountain Club. Since graduation, Steve has served as a Concord, N.H., city councilor, chairman of the New Hampshire Rivers Management Advisory Committee, and vice president for policy at the Society for Protection of New Hampshire Forests. In a lengthy and laudatory article published last September, The Boston Globe described Steve as one of the"most articulate and influential voices in the New Hampshire enviro-political arena." Steve's recent move is the result of his recognition that some environmental problems have to be addressed on a regional basis. At the A.M.C., he will combine research, education, and volunteer efforts throughout the Northeast into a uniform set of policies.
