Cowboy Swanson has been elected to the Flagstaff (Ariz.) City Council, indorsed by the Arizona Daily Sun, Rick wisely focused on environmental issues'in the race without sacrificing voters in favor of controlled long-term growth. In his spare time (?) Rick is also a marketing associate at W. L. Gore & Associates.
Don O'Bannon, a partner in the law firm of Arter, Hadden, Johnson and Bromberg, has announced his candidacy for state representative in Texas. The Oak Cliff Tribune reports that Don was appointed to the Dallas Park and Recreation Board two years ago and organized community leaders on a number of issues such as gang violence. Looking forward, education and criminal-justice reform are Don's top priorities; he supports terminating the practice of students receiving certificates of attendance rather than high-school diplomas, and also intends to push for smaller pupil-teacher ratios and higher teacher salaries.
Nick Theodorou has been named a partner in Foley, Hoag's litigation department. A graduate of Chicago Law School, Nick previously served as an assistant U.S. Attorney.
Marlow Hicks has taken Abbott Labs by storm. Currently the manager of device operations in Abbott's diagnostic division, Marlow supervises some 40 employees, ranging from hourly workers to line supervisors to professional engineers. Armed with an M.S. in construction engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, he spent three years with Exxon, two of them in Singapore building a processing plant and working on regulatory and environmental issues. In die Chicago area Marlow is now very active in recruiting Dartmouth students. Particularly significant is his recent successful assistance in implementing a joint partnership between corporations and the nine historically Black colleges and Universities.
