'Tis the merry, merry month of May when in our campus days we were looking forward to warmer weather, Green Key Weekend, the end of the term, and summer vacation. I would hope some might admit that, as students, this was one of our more enjoyable times in our lives. But had not some persons supported the institution financially, we would not have had the experiences, or maybe it would have been on a much smaller scale. One wonders in this day and time whether alumni back then withheld support because of concerns about the College. Thank God, some didn't, and we benefited.
We certainly have been through a period of style, poor press, inconsistent actions, and the ignoring of alumni thought, but a series of events seem to indicate a change in direction and attitude of the Board, the administration, and even of some of our classmates. Maybe the time is coming when we can begin to forget some of the past and work for the future of the College. Could not some of you who have not given to this year's Alumni Fund Campaign do so before it ends in June and help the current students who soon will be joining us in carrying on what was done for us some yars ago? Thus endeth the reading of the scripture (per head agent Irl Marshall).
Received a great color picture of a good looking group of classmates: Deke Jackson,Jay Urstadt, Skip Muller, and GuntherPerdue (honorary). Would like to share it with you all but I don't know if there will be space in the Magazine. In any case, I was impressed with how little the group has changed, and how young they all look.
Leigh and I were most fortunate to be in Sarasota this winter and thus were able to attend a super party at Prestancia Country Club put on by Jolinny Adler for his wife, Vi, who was celebrating a special milestone (39, of course). This gave us a chance to visit with Sue and Tom Towler.
Tom has given up bikini watching on Siesta Key for working on commercial appraising which, according to Sue, just about covers his lunches.
Would have liked to attend the testimonial dinner given for Thad Seymour by the Dartmouth Club of Central Florida on March 9 but could not. It is my understanding that Mike McGean would attend.
Had a call from Tom Swartz on his way through to a wedding in Venice and he was then to return north to continue to wind down his business and join some of us other retirees.
Now that Pete Lord has gotten Ann to retire, they are hardly ever in Connecticut. In February they stayed on St. John's in the Virgin Islands and in March they will be on the Hawaiian Islands.
Don't be surprised from here on if you receive a phone call from me so I can share news of your doings with your classmates.
