This month's '62 episode rockets from a startling stock market prediction to searing inside flashes of the world of sneakers and Sullivans. (This month's writing style connotes very little class information and a whole column to complete.)

The Wall Street Journal selected Hugh"The Guru" Johnson as a contestant for its March investment dartboard stock-picking contest. Hugh is the chief investment officer at First Albany Corporation, an Albany, N.Y., brokerage firm. He selected Hanson PLC, a British firm with interests in Jacuzzi baths, Kaiser Cement, and Eveready batteries. To return in April, Hugh's pick must outperform four randomly selected (via a dartboard) stocks. Keep tuned for this one!

When we were still in Hanover, this particular type of footwear was called sneakers; now it is "active lifestyle footwear." Despite semantics, Reebok International Ltd. promoted Paul Duncan to executive vice president in addition to his present duties as Reebok's chief financial officer. As such, Paul's responsibilities will include coordination of day-to-day operations of the company's divisions with their respective presidents. "Paul has been an integral part of the management team that has built Reebok, " chairman Paul Fireman said. "For some time now, his responsibilities have increasedly included operational areas outside of finance. His promotion to executive vice president will accelerate this process and will be a big help to me and the division presidents in managing our growth." Paul and his wife, Margery, live in Sudbury, Mass.; their Keds include Kenneth 21 and Amy 18.

Now for the Sullivan part of this expose: I was reading People Magazine in Frank's barbershop (Belmont, Mass.) which featured the firing of Kathleen Sullivan, the CBS morning anchorwoman. One picture showed Kathleen being escorted to a N.Y. affair by Frank Mori, Anne Klein's manabout-town. Two observations; I've never seen Frank in a tux with such a big grin; and Kathleen doesn't resemble an anchor in the least.
