Belated news of the deaths of Alvin F. Buchanan Jr., December 18, 1989, at Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and Philip C. O'Connell, April 25 in Belleair, Fla., of cancer.

You guys who weren't there missed a super 65th Reunion. A total of over 50 classmates, wives, widows, sons, daughters, and companions participated, including 20 classmates. Many of them were the "regulars" who attend all reunions and mini-re-unions, but there were also a number of others who, for one reason or another, showed outstanding loyalty and spirit. For example, Walter Vom Lehn, (our oldest classmate, age 93) with his son; FrancisBrown, "Brownie," in his wheelchair, with his son-in-law; Francis "Bud" Brown, our cattleman, wearing his customary boots, leather vest, and sombrero from his Arizona ranch; Kenneth M. Montgomery, "Monty' from Portland, Ore.; HalstedTafit,' Hawley," attending his first-ever re-union (a guy most of us haven't seen since we left College). The first evening included a reception and dinner followed by a concert with the Glee Club and Chamber Singers.

Saturday morning, we had a moving memorial service conducted by Rev. Fred Berthold Jr. '45, Preston Kelsey Professor of Religion, in remembrance of classmates who had died since our last meeting. Following this was our business meeting presided over by president Kenneth Montgomery. After a class picture in the Zahm Garden, we attended the alumni luncheon for our class and the 50th Reunion class of 1940, at which President Freedman spoke and Larry Leavitt, our class agent, presented our check for $209,000, the largest ever gift of a 65th Reunion. Late afternoon, we had a reception at the Montgomery House overlooking Occom Pond followed by dinner in the Wheelock Room in the Inn.

Our speaker, Jere R. Daniell II '55, Class of 1925 Professor of History, gave a fascinating history of developments at the College over the past 65 years, and we were entertained by the Dartmouth Aires. Sunday was sunny and warm for an inspiring Commencement with a class of about 900 graduating students and the awarding of honorary degrees. Addresses by the class valedictorian, by ex-president of Smith College Jill Ker Conway, and President Freedman, as well as musical renditions by the Glee Club and Chamber Singers, concluded an inspiring ceremony. Those of you who weren't there missed a wonderful, heart- warming experience.
