As promised, I attended my 60th Steele High reunion in Dayton where my old Hitchcock roommate, Sam McCray, was the emcee welcoming 68 classmates. Sam and Marianna later hosted a supper that included Bob and Kath Corwin. Bob, also a '34 roommate, had come from a neighboring high school.

In Indianapolis afterward to see relatives, I was reminded that we have three '34s there. I found Hank Pierce in his spacious home. He has adjusted to being a widower and has arranged office and storage areas to accommodate his newest financial planning project. Bernard Loveman, a Chattanoogan when he joined '34, is now retired with more time for tennis and piano playing. The third '34 resident of Indianapolis, Walter Reichart, who got an NYU degree after his Hanover days were interrupted, is retired now from his car insurance business with more time for golf, especially during his months in Naples, Fla.

Leading up to that 60th reunion I attended an Elderhostel at the University of North Carolina in Asheville with courses on (1) our five most pivotal elections, (2) writers of the Blue Ridge area, (3) history of the Land of the Sky. It was my first such week, and I highly recommend trying such a course in an area you would like to explore. Then to Tennessee to visit Dick and May Houck easy to see why they have been enthralled with their Lookout Mountain base all these years. And the next '34 reward was when I reached Nashville and found that great storyteller, Phil Glazer, and his wife, Suzy, in their attractive home. Our football captain is only working parttime now but has lots of activities.

When your executive commitee met in Hanover during Class Officers Weekend, with Jack Tobin presiding, ten members, including the three widow members, were present. We discussed class dues, how to bring widows more fully into '34 activity, how to build on the successful start of our Funding Associates program. We talked about our drive toward a 56th Year Alumni Fund record, and what to do about classmates who have dropped contact. An update of addresses for your '34 Directory will be included in a '34 Newsletter. Next meeting of the executive committee will be held September 15 as part of the mini-reunion and all '34s, including wives and widows, are invited.
