In a recent issue of Tithe Frank Kappler reported that the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) of Universities and Colleges presented the Distinguished Service Award to Lawrence Marx Jr. in recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication as a trustee of Hood College, Frederick, Md. "Much of the credit for Hood's success belongs to this man whose quick contagious smile belies the intensity with which he speaks." Larry first became interested in the affairs of the college in the early sixties when his daughter, Lynn Marx Silverman, was a student at Hood and in 1985 the college awarded him an honorary doctor of humanities degree.

In the Hood College equivalent of our DAM a lengthy article about their "Trustee of the Year" gave us some items that didn't appear in our 50th Yearbook. "Associates also know him as a master of one-liners from sports, where golf 'is one of the few games you play where the ball is standing still' to the role of a trustee should be 'noses in, hands off ... Captain of his tennis team at Dartmouth, a golfer with a 1 handicap and an avid yachtsman, Mr. Marx has combined a love,, of sports with his passion for photography... which has brought him in contact with some of the greats from all walks of life, from golf to sailing, to music and architecture.

"His photo stories are gems, told quickly and with great humor. 'And so I sent Jack (Nicklaus) a photograph I took (at the Westchester Classic Golf Tournament). The photo showed how his grip had opened up on the golf club on the top of his swing. He took some immediate steps to correct this and went on to an illustrious career.' "

Where were you, Larry, or where was I, when I needed advice?

Our next class gathering is scheduled for the Harvard game weekend in Hanover October 26-27. You have probably received you ticket order form by now. Paul Guibord and Bill Macurda have reserved a block of rooms for us at the Econo Inn in West Lebanon—call now, 603/298-8888, and grab a berth. The Friday night gathering before the bonfire will be at the DOC house with the Saturday night festivites getting under way after the game at Pierce's Inn in Etna. (You all remember Pierce's, famous for their mile-high immoral pie.) If you haven't already received Paul's publicity letter and reservation forms, give a call to Paul Guibord in Etna, 603/643-4319.

It will still be daylight savings time-before Halloween-and the leaf-lookers will have come and gone, so we all may indulge in some good old '36 mini-reuning a warm-up for the 55th, June 10-12, 1991.
