There is some truth in the old saying "the more things change the more they stay the same." Well-established businesses regularly close down, the latest being Campion's. The College recently adopted a new alcohol policy ostensibly to comply with state laws and federal regulations. Students under 21 will be seriously affected, but enforcement of the policy probably will be no more effective than prohibiting sex under 21 by decree or the sale and consumption of liquor by passage of the 18 th Amendment. The College might be better advised to somehow encourage development of a system of peer persuasion.
Ralph Specht tells us that he and Trudie are heading north to Lake George, then to the Cape to be joined by twin Frank and wife Edie, with all planning to attend the minireunion October 11-12 (including a lecture by Harry Ferries's son John and the Holy Cross game). He reports that Bob Richter is again enjoying good health. After six years of planning and construction, Kendal at Hanover opened with 248 units available. Barbara andJohn Gilbert, Al Ritchie, and many other Dartmouth graduates will be in residence.
Just before leaving for six weeks in their summer digs at Resolute Bay, Northwest Territories, Link and Tahoe Washburn reported that everything was A-OK with them. They also said that the same was true of Betty andBill Lingley, who are still living in Lacey, Wash.
Earl Arthurs, our roving, seagoing host, sent us a spectacular card from Stockholm while en route to Copenhagen. He talks of his six-week cruise in the Baltic and North Seas in the same manner as the rest of us would our daily shopping trip. Clay Titus reports that he and wife Grace spent die winter in North Palm Beach, rushing back to New York City in early April to take off for a month in their seafront condo near Valencia, Spain. Then it was back to New York City and on to their lakeside house in Putnam Valley, hoping to see Helen and Schuyler Cornthwaite on the way.
As noted before, it is difficult for this columnist to keep the class necrology up to date. We deeply regret that we heretofore failed to report the sad news about Alec Block, CharlesFleming, Charlie Ganzel, Donald Korper,Doug Mallard, Benjie Rosenberg, EdSkillin, and Art Somers.
