It is regrettable that much of the news received during the summer break in the publication of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE was of a sad nature. Word came in June of the passing of Troy Parker on May 18. This was followed by the death of Henry Smith on July 5. See the respective obituaries in the September or current issue.

The Alumni Records Office reports the deaths of Mrs. Catherine (Austin C.) Keough in Williamstown, Mass., on October 5, 1975, and Mrs. Grace (Amos W.) Crooks in Ponte Velia Beach, Fla., on February 28. Through the courtesy of Peter W. Reilly III '50, we were informed of the death of Mrs. Marion (Sherwood)Trask in Gastonia, N.C., in April.

In further reference to the death of Mrs. Keough, the Bequest and Estate Planning Program advises that the estate included a bequest of $50,000 to the College. Although completely unrestricted, it has been used to establish the Austin C. Keough 1911 Memorial Fund, an endowment fund for the general support of the College. This is the 26th bequest to be credited to the Class of 1911 over the years under the aegis of the program.

A further signal honor, in addition to those already achieved, has been bestowed upon DonCheney. At a commemorative dinner held on April 20 by the central Florida chapter. Sons of the American Revolution, Don was awarded the gold good citizenship medal of the national society for his humanitarian acts and his good citizenship.

Don forwarded a letter from Mrs. Esther(Sargent F.) Eaton sent in response to his request for personal news. She writes that the most joyous event of 1976 was the arrival of the third great-grandchild, a boy. Her son experienced an unusual vacation a year ago by participating in the Bicentennial trip for cyclists from Oregon to Virginia, completing it in 82 days. Her daughter is a trustee of Bridgeport University. Esther is currently enjoying good health and keeps busy.

We appreciate Ken Clark's thoughtfulness in writing to report on his and wife Elizabeth's attendance at the post-50th reunion in June. He states that he was outranked by Bert French '09. But his own class label brought references to the late Burt Cooper and the late Duke Dunning by a son-in-law. They enjoyed a concert by the Glee Club, now staffed equally by men and women. The omission of "Eleazar Wheelock" from the program was duly noted. They attended a general meeting, which included remarks by President Kemeny, and in which, surprisingly, no mention was made of finances or quotas of any sort.

A report from Wee Kimbalt informs us that Harold Burtt's wife passed away last April. Harold has encountered health problems and is presently confined to a nursing home at 1802 Riverside Drive, Room 2, Columbus, Ohio 43212. He is resting comfortably and hopes to overcome his difficulties.

Just before completing these notes, a message was received from Secretary McGean enclosing a copy of a card received from Lewis Waterbury '12 advising that Carl (Dutch) Waterbury had suffered a stroke in early August. Lewis visited his brother in St. Luke's Hospital, Utica, N.Y. At the time of writing on August 10, Lewis reported that Carl had paralysis in one arm but seemed somewhat better and was fairly alert.
