Here goes the second literary effort of yr obed servant and secretary. Let's call it "Naked Pen 2 1/2."
I've enjoyed exchanging letters and phone calls with George Herman, your DFTD editor in Hancock, N.H., as we attempted to sort out our respective editorial duties. George, a veteran electronic journalist, finds the print medium a little different and still thinks fondly of the days when a red light pointing at him or a "Cue Herman" in his earpiece would "turn him on."
Don and Betty Taber have had a summer that would put Charles Kurault to shame. They attended a granddaughter's college graduation in Ohio en route to the '41 reunion, then visited a son in New Hampshire and a daughter in Maine. Their return to Sarasota was via the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, then they took off again for a tour of the Canadian Rockies in July, followed by a tour of the western National parks in August. And when they're home, Don and Betty ride their bikes five or ten miles a day not bad for a guy with a bionic hip!
For those of you who attended the 50th, you know it was really a '41 doctor (and lawyer) convention in disguise. It was sometimes hard for a lay person to follow the conversations in the tent without an interpreter or a copy of Gray's Anatomy.
My unofficial census counted Doctors BillClark, Elmer Crehan, Sandy Courter, (note: he reverted to the English language as we won the doubles tennis tourney), Chip Deming,Bill Dignam, Harv Dworken, Al Ferguson,Monty Winship, Slip Rainie, Larry Kryle,Frank Munsey, Dick Olmstead, Jack Selby,George Simpson, Dick Spillane, GeneStollerman, Clay Messenger and DaveMcGaughey. In another corner of the '41 tent, I spied Karl Blume and Bob Miner, the class dentists, holding their own convention.
Lean and congenial Ed Stone writes from Wakefield, Mass., that the only reason he was scratched from the June outing in Hanover was that he had a triple by-pass on May 20. Good enough reason! Ed, the horse lover, isn't ready to be clocked on a muddy track, but he says that he is back to hitting a golf ball. Way to go, Stoney!
Dan Provost and Gretchen Krieger were a twosome at the reunion, enjoying each other's company at all the class activities. Since that time, Dan has renewed his friendship with a lady from Palm Springs, where they worked together on the Dinah Shore golf tourney. And on October 12, Carol Krowas (pronounced Cro-vas) and Dan are planning to be wed in California! Best wishes form all of us!
So, Dan has an excuse for not showing up in Hanover on October 25-27 for the mini-reunion. But let's not have any more dropouts. Vic Schneider has planned a full festival featuring Fall foliage, fun and fellowship, a fiery furnace, a football fracas, a feed with Freedman, a Forty-one forum, two fine feasts and much more. See you there!
Belated saddening news: Ed Marlette passed away on August 7. Our deepest sympathy to his wife, Norma, and his family including three Dartmouth sons. Peace and prayers.
