After working at this class secretary assignment for more than a year, I have come to realize that we have reached a very dangerous age. Our classmates have been dropping by the wayside at the rate of about two a month, too often from cancer. On the other hand, many of you, mostly in the age range of 72-76, write about your enthusiastic activity on the ski slopes, on the tennis courts, on the golf course, sailing, gardening, etc. Keep it up and hang in there. If you should learn of the death of a classmate, please let me know. Better yet, let me know if you would like to contribute information to me for his obituary. You may well have been closer to him than I was.
Jim Timothy claims to be the only '4O resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (unlike the hordes who are at Vero Beach). He would welcome anyone who finds him at his new address there, 14 Lake Julia Drive South.
Joe Burnett reports that the largest contingent at the recent Alumni College was the group from 1940, including himself, StetWhitcher Gard and Eleanor Ashley, Vene and Mary Bert Gutman, Bob and MarciaKelley, and Howie Zagor. Citing the pleasure and benefits he has derived from his 25 years of participation in the Alumni College, Stet announced his contribution of $20,000 to establish a fund for continuing education in honor of our deceased classmate, Rudy Horky, and his wife, Barbara.
Since Joe Burnett is always interested in statistical oddities, here's one for him: the largest number of classmate birthdays falling on the same day is four, and that happens about every second or third month.
