Even though I am no longer practicing criminal law, from time to time I still have calls I for representation. (I don't know what the law school will think about collect calls from the Fulton County Jail). Anyway, last week I had several such calls, which always start about the same. "Do you remember me? My name is Sam Smith and you represented me on some charges a couple years ago," at which time I rack my brain to try to remember. Anyway, one of these calls was from a man who said he was referred to me by his best friend, who told him I was the most outstanding Federal criminal lawyer in Atlanta. When I asked who his friend was, he said Jerry Stone. Well, it turns out Jerry Stone is doing life-plus (for kidnapping) and is serving time in Reidsville State Penitentiary for high-security risks. I guess I got Jerry acquitted on the unlawful flight charge, which is always dismissed in Federal Court. Anyway. ..
