Since I've entered the world of music I've discovered that Macon is a virtual jumping-off place for new musicians. Thus, on one sunny day last month I visited the H&H Restaurant where the Allman Brothers ate many meals when they lived in Macon. The H&H is just down the street from Capricorn Records where the Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Molly Hatchet, The Dixie Dregs, Wet Willie, and other such Macon greats as the Marshall Tucker Band and Little Richard recorded their early hits. Cotton Avenue, incidentally, is the only diagonal road in Macon's plot of squares and parallel streets it was the flattest route to the Ocmulgee River and was constructed so that cotton wagons on their way to the river wouldn't run over the mules that pulled them.

So, there at the H&H we relived the Allman Brothers' fame, and although they didn't have "Statesboro Blues" on the jukebox, we were entertained by such great hits as "Sweet Melissa," "Midnight Rider," and "Sittin' on a Dock of the Bay." Of course, if you are a serious Ailman Brothers fan you must go visit Duane Allman's grave in Rose Hill Cemetery. I've already been to Hank Williams' grave in Montgomery so Rose Hill is next on my list.

Nora Jacobson of Hoboken, N.J., produced, directed and narrated the film "Delivered Vacant," which was shown at the New York Film Festival last fall. This film follows the transformation of Hoboken from a multiethnic working community into a haven for "Manhattan-based yuppies seeking lower rents and less stress." The New York Times review described her film as an "urban epic," and, according to a source, Nora received an excellent review (3.5 stars) in New York's Newsday.

Kevin Shenberger reports that some '74s had a mini-reunion (small chill) in Andover, Mass. Present were Steve Larmon, wife Jane, and children Annie, Jay, and Jennie. Steve and his family live in Keene, N.H., where he is an oncologist. Representing Andover were John Lamond, who practices law in Lowell and specializes in legal malpractice defense, and his wife, Ann, and children David and Maggie. Representing the class of '76 was Joe Maffione and his wife, Patty McCrevy Maffione.

Well, the Blizzard of '93 blitzed Macon, Ga., in mid-March as the cherry blossoms were about to bloom. We were all snowbound without electricity or water. Snow is a foreign word down here and without plows or chains we basically had to stay put. So the world was quiet for one day and it was like heaven.

quiet for one day and it was like heaven. Happy Spring!
