REUNION RUMBLINGS. After our June 10-13 reunion gathering, Townes and Joan Harris showed some Arlington, Vt., hospitality to George and Margery Welch, who normally are in Louisville, Ky., and to David and Kay Wright, of Des Moines, lowa, for a pleasant few days. Better watch out, George and Dave—a few days in beautiful Hanover, followed by a few more in Vermont, could lead to a New England addiction.
Tom Harrington, a native New Englander, has covered the nation in his travels since retiring. He may be our most active class contactor. His latest visit just before Tom joined us in Hanover, was in San Diego, where he visited with Bob and Pat Tease. Bob sent us a nice note, and was sorry he had to miss reunion in Hanover.
So nice to see Dr. Charlie Schofield for a brief visit to the class tent, on Reunion Monday. Charlie was on his way to a grandchild's house near Burlington, Vt. Charlie is the family doctor in the Keene area, and shows no sign of either advanced age or slowing to a retirement speed. He had a most difficult year when Joannie was diagnosed with a cranial tumor and then left us in mid-April.
Jerry Kirshner, we're so sorry we missed you at reunion. Jerry got sick and had to leave abruptly (back to Stowe, Vt.), prior to eating any of the food, we're told.
Nice note from Frank Tousley. One of the highlights of his reunion was joining the '45, '46, '47 Glee Club singers in many of the old Dartmouth songs.
Arnold and Maureen Weber have a fine excuse for not attending reunion and a great reason to show up for the 50th—announcing twin boys (Nov. '90), Nicholas and Adam. Arnie may have set the class record for youngest children. Are there any others out there challenging? And wasn't it some 26 years ago Arnie had twin girls with his first wife?
Joe Eisaman sent a nice note telling how he and Karen recounted each day what might be transpiring in Hanover, as they had to imagine the reunion experience this time. For sure in 1997, he says.
Bourke Welch greatly enjoys his work as a representative for a pesticide residue test lab in Calif. He tells the growers when to pick and also takes the information to buyers with the assurances of a safe crop. Bourke, please note the latest issue of Dartmouth Life. The environmental studies department at Dartmouth proposes to set up an organic farm to demonstrate high profitability through organic procedures and no pesticides.
Jiggs Fuller missed reunion to have a cataract operation, but he looks forward to resuming full operation of his firm, now steadily gaining. Jiggs left Gannet to be on his own.
Bill and Mo Buckingham in Seattle have another grandson, Jordon, born January 31 to Paul and Susan. He's Buck's offspring, no doubt, since he has the same hairline.
And congratulations to Alan Epstein, relaxing after turning the presidential reigns over to Hugh Chapin for the next six years.
Our next event: October 25-26, Norwich Inn, Dartmouth Night, Cornell football. Call to hold a room at the Inn, 802/649-1143. See you soon.
