Deke Olmsted has received the Dartmouth Alumni Continuing Education Award for his work in organizing the Pacific Northwest Alumni Seminar over the last several years. The citation he received was rather wordy (thankfully, it was not in Latin) and boiled down to "Thank you, and well done."
Deke is planning to attend the reunion and planned to be in Hanover for the Columbia game on November 7. After many years in government working in the area of youth, family and criminal justice, Deke has moved on to teaching in the Education Department of Lewis and Clark College and in the Portland (Oregon) public schools. He works primarily with gang-affiliated high-school kids.
Deke is interested in working abroad and wonders if any of you work in international education or relief organizations. As an alternative, he says he is also interested in returning to New England in some administrative capacity in public or private schools.
Again, a reminder that our 25th Reunion will be June 16-19, 1994. Keep those dates open. In the last column I asked you to give me nicknames that were used at Dartmouth but are no longer appropriate. I'm still waiting. Now I'd like you to think about people or events at Dartmouth that really made a difference in your life.
Take care and write.
