I thought I had been complaining about the lack of news for years, but apparently I have only just figured out how to do it properly. Amazingly enough, both Harley Kaufman's dad and Doug Jaeger took up their pens on October 8. (That must have been the day the September issue reached us all. I knew those regurgitated press releases would be hard to take!)
Doug's idea of a "few changes" seems a little understated to me:
"First, I'm still with the company I started with back in 1973 (Graco), but I have just been appointed director of marketing services-Europe. It is a very interesting and exciting challenge with all the world changes taking place. This is especially true in Europe, including the former Soviet Union and Africa/ Middle East. A lot of my work involves our corporate office personnel in Minneapolis, so I maintain two offices, one in Paris and one in Minneapolis. This also means I maintain two homes. My apartment in Paris is in an area called Montparnasse. I have been here through the spring and summer and enjoy Paris very much. In Minnesota I recently bought a different house. I've been divorced for a couple of years, and the new house gets me re-established as a homeowner with a place for my three children, Jeff 14, Jill 8, and Allison 7."
It was wonderful getting news for the column but even nicer hearing from an old friend. The address in St. Paul will get forwarded, Doug, and we'll look forward to reuning somewhere soon!
I'm glad Harley's Dad, Max, took a few minutes to write as it sounds like Harley might never have found the time himself: Harley "completed his M.D. studies at University of Texas Med School in San Antonio in 1977. Completed a residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in 1982. Completed a residency in nuclear medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital Center in 1981. Completed law school at Brooklyn Law School in 1990.
"He has been an assistant clinical professor of nuclear medicine at Downstate Medical Center of SUNY and is currently an assistant clinical professor of radiology (nuclear medicine) at NYU Medical Center and on staff halftime at the New York V.A. Hospital. He practices parttime as an attorney with several N.Y.C. law firms and is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
"How he finds time to also spend every Monday evening doing pro bono work for the Association of the Bar in N.Y.C. and the Brooklyn Bar Association is always amazing to me. He is also a member of the New York County Lawyers Committees on Nuclear Mental Health, Taxation, and Surrogate Court Practice, Trusts, and Estate Planning. He is also on the Association of the Bar of the City of New York's Committee on Nuclear Technology and the Law. Maybe we might supply him with the proverbial 'broom' so he can clean up his apartment at least once a month."
But are you sure Harley ever gets back to the apartment, Mr. Kaufman? I'll have to get you together with my father sometime and you can compare notes on the idiosyncrasies of Green children. We're great but never exactly perfect. Thank you for following the Alumni Mag so regularly and for caring so much about Dartmouth.
Speaking of all things green, Happy Holidays! When next you hear from me, it will be '93. Where are the rest of you 20 years later?
