When Jerry Sass agreed to be co-chairman, with Curly Prosser, of the 65th Reunion Committee, our officers got a man who seems to have been in perpetual motion all of his life. At Dartmouth he was captain of the tennis team freshman and senior years and joined Beta Theta Pi and Casque and Gauntlet. After Dartmouth he really started operating. He was managing director and CEO of several companies ranging from Sultan Oil and Drilling to a number of food processing companies to being founder and president of Trans-Southern Airlines; was president or board chairman of a half-dozen other outfits; has held private and transport pilot licenses since 1936; served as major in the U.S. Air Force on active duty during the war; and holds licenses as real estate broker, insurance agent, and hospital administrator, among other things. His wife, Rachel, is an M.D. with 50 years of private practice. His hobbies are tennis, hunting, and fishing. When did he ever find time for hobbies? In his dealings with the College on 65th Reunion arrangements one is inclined to sympathize with the College in their unequal struggle.
Jerry reports that the date for the 65th has been set. Registration at the Inn will be June 11, 1993. The departure date is June 13. All activities will take place at the Inn.
Sorry about no class notes in the Winter issue. At due date for submission the writer was in the repair shop for a valve job. Pig valve serial no. CM 9280, model 32625 seems to be performing as advertised.
Esther MacEachran, Mac's widow, has agreed to head up the ladies' section, replacing Laura Sadler who has retired from the job after a long period of valuable service.
Other good news is that our officers have induced Lawson Vanßiper to volunteer to replace Ed Flanders as head agent for the class Alumni Fund. A better or more conscientious man for the job would be hard to find. He can be counted on to continue Ed's great work and keep the pressure on.
The bad news is shortage of funds. After paying what we owe the Alumni Magazine we will be flat broke.
We regret to report the following deaths: Al Fowler, March 5, Brougham Wallace, September 3, Budd Maring, September 13, and Ed Lilley, October 15.
