The new year has brought two delightful surprises: I have received more news than can be fit in one issue (!), and we DID finally finish our basement! But no room for idle chatter . . . Babies! In July, Caitlin Ann Hackett was born to Ann Fritz Hackett and her husband, Lance. She joins siblings Conor and Kelly. And more recently (December), Andrew Luc Beaubien was born to Jenny Kemeny and her husband, Luc Beaubien. Though he was born prematurely, he and his mother are doing well. Congratulations!
The great singer/songwriter Parker"Speedy" MacDonell is engaged to be married in May to Betsy Gallagher, also from Ohio. Parker has moved back to his hometown, Lima, Ohio, where he's now senior vice president in charge of community banking for Bank One.
One of the great rewards of this job is to hear from classmates who have not had their names in the column since graduation. I was thrilled to hear from Alicia OstrowidzkiRubin this month. Alicia received an M.S. in accounting from the N.Y.U. Graduate School of Business. She worked for Coopers and Lybrand for several years and then in hospital finance departments. Alicia's husband, Ken Rubin (Yale '75), is managing director at Bear Stearns in N.Y. She's been a full-time mother since James was born in 1984, and she had her second son, Lee Joseph, in 1988. In 1987 she received a certificate in cooking and restaurant management from the New York Restaurant School, "just for fun!" Thanks for writing, Alicia.
I was lucky to get a call recently from Andrea Quaid while she was home visiting family and friends. She is still with State Streets investment management subsidiary in Paris, where she's been "introducing quantitative products to Europe." Andrea reported that Ethel Labalme has the enviable job of a freelance food and wine critic, also in France where better to be paid to test food and wine?!
New Woman magazine (Nov. 1991) recognized our own Brita (Sardella) Reed. She's a gynecologist with a private practice in Atlanta, Ga., employing a staff of six and serving over 4,000 patients. Brita and her husband, John Reed '75, have two children.
