Counting down the days. Counting up the possibilities. Counting on you to be the next class secretary. Remember the old Smokey Bear ads? "Only You Can Be the Next Media Wizard." Enlist today.

Looking back on the past five years. Looking forward to the next. Looking down at the scale. Did I really gain so much this winter, or am I just looking for errant electronic scapegoats? No moving parts here—leaves me looking at the truth.

Speaking of food (was I?), I heard this from a Norwegian visitor while lunching at Stell Hall, the Tuck School dining facility where they gracefully let engineering join in: "I tell you, it is a fact. We get older, our bodies get wider. But it all evens out: our minds get narrower to compensate." Wry wit.

Getting up in the morning. Getting us all out the door. Getting down to business. JohnHarrington was named by Metropolitan State University in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area to coordinate the development of a school of law enforcement, chartered by the Minnesota legislature in 1991. John is presently an assistant professor in the College of Professional and Community Studies at Metro State, beyond his regular duties on the St. Paul police force. He served the past two years as a field training officer and instructor at the police academy.

John Douglass is now head of the criminal section for the Richmond, Va., U.S. Attorney's office. He will serve as section supervisor and as a federal prosecutor. John leaves the national defense litigation firm of Wright, Robinson, also of the Richmond area, which he co-founded in 1986. (Actually, it's not clear from the press release he is leaving the firm. However, I have a hard time believing one could serve in both roles simultaneously.) John was an assistant to Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh during die 1987 Iran-Contra hearings.

Martin Dyroff was named section manager, Research Applications Section, for ICI Pharmaceuticals in Wilmington, Del. He'll be responsible for managing scientists in ICI's biomedical research department, developing and looking for new pharmaceuticals. Martin received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Vanderbilt. In addition to his new duties at ICI, he is newsletter editor (Ah ha! Transferable skills!) of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics.

Taking a break. Taking out the trash (remember to recycle). Taking a deep breath (we're all too busy). Taking a risk (get up on that table and dance—go ahead, you deserve it). Take care of yourselves.
