While this month's mailbag was not exactly overflowing, I did receive a few interesting notes from classmates 'round the girdled earth. John Meakem writes, "I've become a foreign service officer with the state department and will be going out to my first post in Pakistan in late May. For the good of the cause, I look forward to going over into the former Soviet Central Asian Republics to start the Dartmouth clubs of Uzbekistan, Kirghizia, etc." His new address is c/o U.S. Consulate—Lahore, Pakistan, APO-AE 09812-2000 USA

From New York I hear that Bobby Banks is working in corporate finance for Goldman Sachs after finishing B-school at Wharton and a trip to the Greek Islands last summer. While Bobby's job doesn't leave much time for running around town, on the rare occasions he is allowed to leave the office he has run into JohnGilstrap. John, who finished his M.B.A. at Columbia last August, is now working at Warner Music Group doing marketing for all the music-related companies and labels. My source tells me that "at a recent industry party John was notably much happier in his new career versus his old one at the Bank of New "York. (No kidding.) John was last seen helping stage this year's Grammy Awards in New York.

Returning to the world of finance, BrianBurke also works at Goldman where he trades municipal bonds and spends his spare time keeping his 15-foot jumper sharp on the courts of the city.

Roseanne Byron works for an insurance company in the real estate area after leaving Citibank's real estate department. Terri Gibbs is working for the health and hospitals corp and making the rounds on the New York social scene. In Pittsburgh, James Barnes is practicing law since graduating from Howard Law School and now lives with wife Liz and their two children.

Speaking of parents, Kim Kendall and Dave Robertson produced yet another off-spring of dual class of 1984 parentage: Eleanor Lyon, on December 10 (dual Thayer '85 parentage as well, for what that's worth). Kim writes that she and Dave still live in Boston (Somerville), where he works for Analog Devices and she is on leave from Hewlett- Packard. In February they were off for a six- month stint in Ireland for Dave's job.

Unfortunately, Anna Sonnerup, the country's undisputed number-one female biathlete, narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympic team that competed in Albertville. Sick for weeks before the Olympic trials and unable to train fully, Anna shot poorly and failed to qualify (the sport combines cross- country skiing with target shooting). Anna, three times the U.S. champion, has finished as high as second in a World Cup event and in 1990 came in eighth in the 7.5K at the World Championships in Norway. Look for her in the next Winter Olympics in 1994.

A recent advertisement in the Wall Street Journal announced that Rob Irwin was named a vice president at the investment banking firm Alex, Brown. Till next we talk,
