The time has come to take golf pencil in hand (all other pencils having disappeared) and draft the notes for the May issue. Few of the classmates have the inclination to dash off to Kenya and go ballooning in search of wild life. Mutt Jennings may be unique in this respect. We can't all be puttering around the garden or playing bridge for our kicks. However, until we are otherwise informed, that has to be the assumption.
The telephone is a handy instrument that sometimes works. The one at Roy Milliken's was actually answered this time, probably by Herta. Roy came to the phone and cheerfully reported that he had no news. As a former class secretary he could have been a little more forthcoming, it would seem. Normally they would have been at Elbow Key in the Bahamas by now (early March) but were delayed for some reason. Herta broke into the conversation at this point to say that she could tell me a lot about Roy that he might not tell and that she probably would someday. That day is awaited with much anticipation.
As mentioned in earlier notes Betty andLane Dwinell moved into the Kendal at Hanover retirement community last November and now are near neighbors of CurlyProsser. Curly reports that they are comfortable and happy in a large, beautifully appointed apartment in which they have found room for many of their treasured possessions. Lane, the only two-term governor of New Hampshire that we know of in the class, has kept busy as president of the Hitchcock Hospital for a dozen years and, recently, as a trustee of the new Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He is also a strong supporter of Alumni Fund activities.
Van van Riper has reported good returns, so far, in his first term as Alumni Fund head agent. As our numbers inevitably shrink a bit over time we, the survivors, should be happy to make up any possible shortfall. Our former head agent Ed Flanders is recovering nicely from his recent indisposition and thinks nothing of walking a mile when someone forgets to pick him up.
We regret to report the deaths of Al Clark on January 17 and Hal Moody on January 21.
