I apparently jumped the gun on the obituary for FrankFiedler. I recently received more information from Dartmouth concerning Frank, but the obit has already gone to press, so I’ll tell you more about him here.

On November 19,1917, Frank was assigned to the Third Dartmouth Unit of the American Field Service as a staff car driver in the artillery at Paris, France. He married Sue in 1924, and the Fiedlers moved back to Frank’s hometown, Ottumwa, lowa. He was employed by a wholesale and retail hardware distributor, where he became manager for the retail department and then secretary and treasurer of the corporation. He was past commander of 0.8. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and presided over numerous com- munity organizations including the Ottumwa Area Development Corporation, Ottumwa Retail Credit Bureau, Rotary Club, and cham- ber of commerce. Frank and his wife were ardent travelers, visiting those parts of the world that have an air of romance, intrigue, and (today) danger in their names—Saigon and Beirut, to name a couple. Their favorite mode of travel was by cargo liner. Frank retired from business in 1962.
