Bill Falion woke us up to the holiday season with a beautiful card depicting the American Gothic Ghost Dancers. He wrote that son Peter has been appointed the director of the Fiji Region for the Peace Corp. Bill and Mary Lou are planning a trip there in the spring.
Dave Shea, son of Edmund Shea, Ogdensburg, N.Y., received an Alumni Citation from St. Lawrence University during Homecoming Weekend in Canton.
Head Agent Fran Fenn, a person who never stops working for Dartmouth and the class, gives us the good news that under a new Alumni Fund matching-gift crediting policy, donors will receive personal credit for matching gifts to the 1993 Alumni Fund. And remember, we voted to accept a goal of $100,000.00.
Phil Swain writes that he and Phyllis took a four-week holiday in France. Three of those weeks were Dartmouth Travel tours tracing Caesar's tracks through Provence. Phil says the Dartmouth trip was superb, and he recommends it to classmates.
A Vox special supplement dated November 1 was devoted to the Collis Center expansion. It shows floor-plan sketches and tells how the architect, Tony Atkin, was chosen. I'm sure Charlie and Ellen had a hand in planning the new Collis Center. President Freedman said, "A comprehensive campus center is a fundamentally important addition to our facilities, one that will respond to the needs of students for a wider and more diverse range of activities outside the classroom." Charlie sees this not as a gift but as a repayment for his Dartmouth education.
While Collis Cafe will be closed for renovations, the staff agreed to share some of its favorite recipes. Sample: Peanut Butter Swirl Bars. Write your secretary for the recipe.
Without making a scientific survey, I nominate Bill and Patty Rotch as Travelers of the Year. They have visited Venezuela, the Virgin Islands, Colorado, Mexico, and, most recently, Cuba. Bill said, "What we saw made us happy to be living in New Hampshire, close to our children and grandchildren." He adds after seeing the hardships, "What can we do? Encourage decency, kindness, generosity, love—in short, promote the spirit of Christmas, not just in December but throughout the year. Lets try."
Mini-reunion September 25-26.
