We are but a few weeks away from Number 50, Friday, June 11, through Sunday, June 13. If you've reviewed the program, you know you won't be wondering what to do next! It's a busy schedule, offering something for everyone: golf and tennis, provocative lectures, a tour of the campus and fabulous new medical center, a reception at President Freedman's home, lots of time for renewing old acquaintances, and an honored role in the Commencement procession with reserved seating at the Commencement exercises.
If you haven't registered, give it your serious consideration and call Bob Field, (603) 643-6153, or Paul Young, (603) 643-4488. Let's have a great turnout. This is the big one! Judging from recent reports, Johnny Koz's '92 prediction for a dramatic upturn in men's hockey has proven right on target and the women's team leads the pack.
Bill and Barbara Porter, their 2 5-year lease on their Fire Island National Seashore vacation home having expired, divide their time between a farm at Sanford, Va., and Jensen Beach, Fla. The Sanford farm is near the Chesapeake and the ocean, and Bill raises corn, soybeans, and ducks there. He also rides motorcycles and flies ultralight aircraft. Every year they visit a friend who owns the Keystone Ranch in Colorado where "Ponderosa," the popular TV series, was filmed. Bill tips that anyone over 70 can ski free at Keystone. However, Barbara spends the savings at the local stores. Bill voices some frustration with the trends of the Freedman era, overly accommodating "the intelligent odd fellow to the disadvantage of the well-rounded student from the upper part of his class." They'll be at Reunion.
Dick Proctor, wintering in Florida and summering at Eastman in Grantham, N.H., has bought a penthouse condo at Winter Park and is trying to sell his waterfront home "to a rich doctor." (Better hurry, Dick, before Hillary's healthcare controls take hold!) He sees "Zoo" Delany, whose racquetball has been slowed by ticker problems; also Mimiand Norm Askey, thankfully recovered from a serious auto accident in Oklahoma which required extensive hospitalization for both of them. Semi-retired, Dick is still involved with his Florida Ranch Lands Co. His son Richard '72 is a successful insurance executive. Dick plans to be at the 50th.
From Rochester we hear that Bob Power, retired from Kodak ten years ago after 35 years, and Betty, who is also retired from many years teaching classical ballet, now have the time to enjoy travel, visiting son Bruce in Minnesota, daughter Christine '81 in Northampton, and two grandchildren. They have the 50th on their calendar.
Did anyone pick out Farmer Mead in his Minuteman uniform, either marching in the Inaugural Parade or in the background
at one of the balls? Had he fired his musket he would have been more easily identified.
From Ed Brock comes the sad word of JohnL. Hutchinson's death from heart complications on January 29 in Amherst, N.Y. Hutch achieved national prominence in commercial and public-service TV production. Finally, from Warren Taylor, we've learned of BobPerkins's passing on January 30. We're sorry they can't join us next month.
