Our 50th Reunion is only ten months away. Bob Gray has a big job as our 50th Yearbook Editor. We owe him our cooperation. Please take a few moments now to write and submit your contribution, including appropriate nostalgia, and mail it with picture to Bob Gray, Box 505, New London, NH 03257.
Walt Daggatt, Phi Beta Kappa, Senior Fellow, and Sphinx in our time, checks in from Seattle, accounting for his limited communication in recent years. His friendly, sincere letter reports the non-admission of his older son an outstanding student who went on to play basketball at UCLA during the national championship Woodin era and also expressing concerns with changes at "the College we enjoyed so much. I still love the old Dartmouth, but it's like meeting an old sweet-heart 50 years later. She doesn't look the same. Dartmouth could be different. Vox Clamantis in Deserto." Walt's last 20 years have seen the continuing, serious illness of his wife, Marge. He plays golf as much as possible. When next in Seattle, your secretary will contact him. We respect and understand Walt's views but hope that his underlying affection for class and College will bring him to our 50th.
According to Johnny "Koz," Big Green hockey fortunes are looking up. He attended the Harvard-Dartmouth game and was "mighty pleased" with the much-improved coaching and many talented underclassmen. While in Naples, Fla., playing in the Eastern State Seniors Golf Tournament, he lunched with Ray Wolfe, who was recovering from back surgery and missing tennis. John's wife, Stacey, visited Marie Kane, but they missed Dick and Jane Kimmel on Marco Island.
Writing from Pompano Beach, Fla. BobKerwin joined the successful bypass club in May 1991. He and Olga celebrated by taking a "dream trip" though Europe on the Orient Express, visiting England, France, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey. They lived in Turkey for 30 years when Bob worked for the International Bank, American Embassy, and Mobil International. Now retired, living near two of their children, they enjoy travel, concentrating on the U.S., and I hope to see them this fall when they visit the Northwest.
My boss, hard-driving Class Agent BillMaeck, reports that Ralph and EllenDushane moved to his Sun City, Ariz., area in 1987. Ralph, president of Palmbrook Country Club, is implementing major management and financial control improvements and is also a top-ten golfer. Bill also received a welcome call from freshman roommate Stan Skaug. Norma and Stan purchased a Sun City West home and will divide their time between Minnesota and Arizona. Bill and Jackie are exceptionally loyal '43s and will be at our 50th.
Bob Clark, George Graham, Bud Hall,Eddie O'Brien, Don Taylor, Bob Gray, PaulYoung, Hal Lindley, and Prexy FredStockwell attended our May class officers meeting. Hal confirmed that 50th planning is well underway and that legal but astute manipulation of class funds reduced our estimated deficit from $3,330 to $600. Sadly, we've lost three more classmates: Elliot C. Taber Jr., February 2; John H.Shaw, March 14; and Art Handy, May 30. Our sympathy to their families. Obits will appear later.
