After the celebrated return of the classic New England winter, with long periods of gray sky and large falls of snow, we recognized the brilliance of Monk and Marsha Bancroft, who planned the class mini-reunion at Mad River Glen in Waitsfield, Vt., on March 27. While we might have expected, from the experience of recent years, nothing but mud, we were treated instead to a bright blue sky, a 60-degree day, and large, inviting moguls—perfect spring skiing. Many people, including Marsha, skied in T-shirts, no gloves.

The intrepid '57 skiers enjoyed great facilities at the Montclair, N.J., Ski Club's lodge, just a quick walk from the ski hill. Bob andAnne Millmore, along with Monk and Marsha, are longtime members of this club, and it sure is a good one. Bob is consulting four days a week with the bank where he worked fulltime for many years. Sounds good.

Mike Waldbillig was part of our crew and skied beautifully, despite his claims not to have skied much this year. We learned that his dad long ago installed a rope tow on a back hill at his farm near Albany, and Mike has kept it up ever since. This year it saw lots of service. Not a bad way to take a few turns.

Clark and Happy Griffiths were a part of the festivities and were skiing well. Happy, whom we remember as an ace ski instructor, took every hill in stride. Monk has been on the ski patrol at Mad River Glen for 25 years, knows the mountain like the back of his hand, and was a great tour guide. Clark and I had also served on ski patrols over the years, and it was fan trading war stories about the strangest accidents. For Martha and me it was a great weekend, skiing at a place that has not changed since we were young mountain rats roaring all over the terrain. We enjoyed the fellowship of good friends and classmates and the familiar mountains of our home state of Vermont.

By the time you read this, the Edgertons will have had their soiree mini-reunion party, which I'm sure was very different but equally good fun.

Have a good summer, and stay in touch.
