We would presume that you have probably been treated to a copy of Ev Woodman's excellent report, directed to PeterCardozo, on his experiences at the D- Day/Normandy exercises, which he attended in June. He had some trouble locating Peter in July because the latter was off with Susan oil a short two-week cruise off the Cape on their boat.
From Bob Wehmeyer we learn that he is still cutting his own firewood and mowing about ten acres of fields and orchard. But he's expecting to move to a retirement community in Falmouth, Maine, before next winter sets in. He says he's "sorry to have missed the 55th, but hope to be around for our 60th." Bob currently can be reached at Rte. 2, Box 126, Kezar Falls, ME 04047.
Archie Mallon writes that he moved on July 31 to an apartment in Lyndonville, Vt., (P.O. Box 842, 57 Main St. 05851) where he will be a few miles away from his daughter. He reports his health is fair to good. We'll miss Archie because on occasion we got together, usually to see some athletic contest at Williams College.
Bud Stein notes on a green card that he works about half time, spending the rest of the time golfing, playing tennis, and traveling. He had two holes-in-one in one month of play, which ought to be some sort of a '39 record. He recently returned from a Caribbean trip on the famed sailing ship SeaCloud and must have liked it so well, he is reported to be back aboard on a trip this fall to Turkey and the Greek Isles. Some June clippings from the Ft. Myers News-Press relate some of his experiences as ship's doctor on LST 288 during the 1944 Normandy invasion, more specifically on bloody Omaha Beach. Bud also has a combat star for action in Okinawa, and was sent to Nagasaki to view damage from the atomic bomb dropped there.
We learned from Bozo Noland's daughter Anne, who was visiting some friends here in York Harbor in July, that shortly after returning home from our 55 th, Bozo underwent a heart bypass operation. The report at that time was that recovery was going apace. George Neiley is currently battling back after a stroke which incapacitated him during a cruise on Lake Michigan in mid-summer. He too is making good strides toward recovery at his home, according to our sources.
