Forty-nine classmates, maybe more, returned for the Fall Weekend. Counting wives and friends, we were 100. Peter and LuMartin opened the deli

Friday evening, and we were warmly fortified with minestrone for the parade. Mikeand Nita Choukas did likewise with chowda the morning before the game. Barbara andDave Hall repeated their incredible hospitality afterwards. Dave Batchelder had his notepad out, too, so these may just be second opinions.

Jim Bouvaird, still with Merrill Lynch, flew in from Chicago's North Shore with DaveHilton who, miraculously, will soon retire. Also from Illinois was Herb Knight, in Hanover to receive this year's Spirit of '51 Award. Hard to name someone who has done more for our class. The citation appears in Batch's Fables.

On and off the executive committee meeting agenda: Al Mori announced next year's Alumni Fund objective: $ 156,000, and emphasis on participation. Carol Morse, widow's committee chair, has resigned after five years of dedicated service, including especially her efforts to enhance our sensitivity towards the widows of the class. We are better for her work. Henry Nachman can get 'sls in on a February ski weekend in Aspen organized by the Dartmouth Glub of Seattle. Call Hank for details. And Joe Welch is mostly recovered from hip replacement surgery. He helped carry the '51 banner over the complete parade route. Dick Price will soon complete his consulting agreement with Eveready (to devote full time to our 45th Reunion?). Reunion Chairman John Clayton was on hand, having just returned from Scotland.

Address changes, or not: Mike Choukas, recently retired from the College, will stay in Hanover where he can still get a hockey game. Chet Cotter has moved to Beaufort, N.C. Lloye Miller just retired from Northrop Aviation and may stay in D.C. Dr. Aaron Rausen has moved to Westport, Conn., and continues to practice in N.Y.C. Frank Smallwood is now fully retired in Burlington, Vt.

Jack Gray says the law practice is leveling off, but he still has time for deals with the Saudis. Bob Langworthy is another deal-maker, as is Buck Scott, who seeks opportunities linking Canada and the U.S.

A sad note: Professor Jeff O'Connell was at all the events and told friends that Virginia, his wife of 34 years, died in September after a long illness. Jeff is at the University of Virginia Law School, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Dave Saxton finds time between rounds (golf!) to work on the Maine gubernatorial campaign. Bob Shannon is still building in Fairfield County, Conn. Jack Skewes chairs the board of overseers for the Hanover Inn. Dr. Joe Linder does medical/hospital/physician head-hunting. Tex Weingarten's daughter Sue '98 helped build the bonfire. Jim Culberson, Don Cox, Jack Geigerich, DaveKrivitsky, Jerry Mitchell, Sandy McDonald, Sam Roberts, Hay Smith, and RalphWatkins were all there, but I ran out of parties before cornering them.

Among the many others seen were class-mates mates whose activities have been recently chronicled in these columns: Bill Beasley, BillBoynton, Joe Caldwell, Mark Cole, JackGannon, Bob Hopkins, DickHulbert, Bob Hustek, Dave Sargent, and Jack Sutton. Skip and I send warm holiday greetings to you and yours!
