With the Super Bowl in the news it's not too late to write about '51 fans gathering in Boston over October's last weekend to see another Green whumping of Harvard. Afterwards, Sherry and John Hatch hosted a dinner at the Algonquin Club. No private affair, this, but John had asked interested fans to let him know their plans enough in advance to reserve an appropriate dining room. Present were Dottie and Al Mori, Kathy and BobHustek, Amy and Hank Nachman, Peggy and George Bissell, Peggy and Dick Price, Pat and Joe O'Connor, and Nancy and JerryMitchell. One more year, John, and the Algonquin bash becomes a class tradition.

Final Fall Weekend football note: we sat near John Clayton when Jay Fiedler broke Johns 43-year-old record for passing TDs. His eligibility exhausted, John said no come back was planned.

Art Worden writes that he's been privately flying for the past two years or so. His children and six grandchildren being spread about in Detroit, Maine, and Syracuse presents no problem as long as the weather holds. His letter was from Florida, where he and Ruth were to cruise the eastern Caribbean to celebrate 40 years together. Art describes a retirement filled with backlogged projects, the theme of most of the letters we see on the subject.

Last October Mike Choukas, representing our class while in San Francisco, presented a Spirit of' 51 Award to Mike Heyman. Mike H. joins a small but growing group of '51s who add luster to our numerals.

Two of our very prominent professors both Jeffreys have received professional recognition recently. Jeff O'Connell, still at the University of Virginia School of Law, was selected by the American Bar Association's Section on Tort and Insurance Practice to receive the Robert B. McKay Professor Award for his outstanding contributions in that area. The presentation took place in San Francisco last August.

Darmouth's own Professor Jeffrey Hart was the first recipient of the doling America's Foundation Engelitcheff Prize, "in recognition of your long fight against political correctness on... college campuses." This was presented in New York City last fall and included a sizable cash award. Professor Hart scribbled in the margin, not-so-subtly, "wah hoo wah!" Congratulations to the Professors Jeffrey.

Stu Johnson has sold his house in East Windsor, N.J., and is moving to 1997 East Chapel Dr., Deltona, FL 32738. Happily, his new home escaped Hurricane Andrew damage. Stu retired from his position as manager for the Advanced Technology Center for Photonics and Optoelectronic Materials. Won't it be nice, Stu, when folks ask you what you do, to just say "retired" rather than try to get that title straight two times running? Stu has had an article published in a recent Applied Optics, a second article accepted, and a third in the pipeline.

Whether you're a regular, an occasional attendee, or a first-time-backer, you'll be welcome at the winter mini, have fun, and very possibly start a new habit that can add a real measure of contentment to these retirement years. Watch Batch's '51 Fables for details and come on up!
