The American Society for Cell Biology has named Dartmouth cell biologist George Langford the first recipient of its Ernest Everett Just Lectureship award, which honors the noted black scientist who was a 1907 Dartmouth graduate. The award, designed to highlight the accomplishments of cell

biologists of color, recognizes Langford's encouragement of minority science students at the College, as well as his studies at Woods Hole of the nervous systems of squid.
