We all loved Dot Leavitt for her sweet personality, her graciousness, her fund of anecdotes and stories for College and class. Also, her marvelous poetry. "Vermont Academy Evening Song" appeared on the program for her lovely Memorial service November 6, 1993:
O, Vermont, we've seen your beauty Changing with each hour and day; We have found your hidden trout pools Where the light and shadow play; Swirling sparks above a camp fire; Hemlocks laden down with snow. Autumn's hillsides flaming crimson Where the sugar maples grow. Morning mist upon the mountains, Frosty stars across the sky; Snowy campus turned to silver, When the moon is riding high. O Vermont, we will not leave you, Here behind us when we part; We will take your beauty with us, Etched forever on each heart.
Like that? Choice lines.
Betty Sleigh cruised the Columbia and Snake Rivers last summer, the route of Lewis and Clark. Granddaughter Anne got her Ph.D. in forestry last May at University of Washington. Congratulations to grandmother and Anne. Anne went early in February to Ireland, followed by Betty. Betty spent Christmas with granddaughter in Maine. Before Ireland Betty went to Nevis, as before.
Pete Blodgett had "a whale of a time" with brother Put over New Year's in Lyme. He then spent a brief stay in the hospital near home, coming out really scrappy in his usual manner. Don and Barbara Hunt also had a brief time in hospital in December, coming out feeling fine.
Ellie Norris went to her beloved London and three spots on the continent. Sounds very chipper, same as Betty, Pete, Don, and Barbara.
Dudley Smith wrote from Denver during the summer. He greets all the class. A faithful writer, he gave news of alumni in the Rockies region. Sounds vigorous. Thanks, Dudley.
Dick Colton keeps in touch too. He reached 92 on October 19. Congratulations! "Must use walker, otherwise I am doing fairly well. Best wishes."
