Thirty-seven's gifts to the world, part two. WillBrown has spent a career nurturing and studying the supply of water in New Hampshire. He strived to help others see the connection between conservation and politics. Will received the 1985 Gulf Oil Conservation Award for "outstanding contributions to the conservation of our natural resources."

The Baltimore Sun has reprinted only one editorial and that was "A Day of Thanksgiving," written by Edgar Jones (reprinted also in a 1989 Mintbag). Another newspaper editor, Bill Rotch, writes weekly editorials for the Milford Cabinet to fulfill tie needs of the community. The Cabinet has been in continuous publication by his family for 190 years.

Bill Leonard shaped the news we read and saw on CBS, and he wrote In the Storm, of theEye, the story of network TV. Art as an Investment, written by Dick Rush, could bring pleasure and fortune to the readers by imparting a knowledge of purchasing and enjoying paintings. His gifts to Dartmouth are on display at the Hood.

An early and unheralded leader in the civil rights movement was Sam Dillon, who purchased the Alexander Hotel in Hagerstown, Md., in 1960. Sam instructed the manager that "from that moment on we served ladies and gentlemen regardless of race, color, or creed." A bold step toward integration in the South. And lastly, our president, Russ Stearns, longtime Dartmouth faculty member, is well known for his work in transportation planning, traffic, and geotechnical engineering. In 1987 he received The Robert Fletcher Award of the Thayer School.

We all enjoy reading the Alumni Magazine, so please remember to pay your class dues, which cover the cost and mailing of the magazine and newsletters and class projects. Mark your calendars for the '94 mini-reunion September 23-24.
