James A. Michener received the Order of Magellan from the Circumnavigators Club in New York on November 20. Our own Charlie Blaisdell had the honor of presenting the award to this renowned author. Club members Ben Doran and John Johannessen were also present.

Excellent reports have been received from classmates who were on the St. Lawrence River cruise. One of the highlights was the sighting of hundreds of whales including finbacks and a beluga. If you are interested in the China trip in September 1993, you should contact Ben Doran.

A discovery was made at our 55th Reunion. John Emerson and Hal Putnam found that they are tenth cousins and both are direct descendants of John and Thomas Putnam who were among the first settlers of Salem, Mass. The Emerson family has recently donated the Putnam Homestead (1648) in Danvers to the local Historical Society.

In the October column I listed the five physicians and three barristers attending our 55th Reunion. My thanks to Roily Bialla for calling to my attention that he, CharlieBlaisdell, Don McKinley, and Ad Parker were also present. The score is now barristers 7, physicians 5.

Dick and Jean Ziemer journeyed to San Diego to attend the commissioning of the U.S.S. Essez II (LHD) on October 17. It is a multi-purpose amphibious assault ship. Captain Thomas L. Breitinger, USN, son of classmate Bill Breitinger, is the executive officer of this 844-foot ship with crew of 1,100.

I saw the Penn, Bucknell, New Hampshire, and Cornell football games two wins and two losses. Chuch Bassett was on hand for the Cornell game in the rain at Ithaca. I was delighted to watch Dartmouth capture the Ivy title once again in a great game at Princeton.
