Pete Buhler called me this week with the sad news that Pete Sarty passed away on March 7 after a five-year battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Pete was a loyal classmate, and even while severely incapacitated with his illness he kept up his contacts with the class and College. He attended our fall mini-reunion dinner last October, where the extent of his illness was apparent. BruceAlexander represented the class at the memorial service. An obituary will appear in a subsequent issue.

Our Japanese classmate, Ryutaro Shindo, sent along a few lines with his class dues. Last October he invited Dean James Wright for a Japanese meal in an old-style inn in Kyoto while the dean was on tour in the Far East. Taro keeps in contact with Dartmouth alumni in Japan, but there are only a few near his home.

While on the subject of class dues, if you haven't already done so, please send yours along to Treasurer Ralph Sautter. Dues cover the cost of this magazine, and the optional gift contributions provide scholarships and support for worthy causes at the College.

Earlier this week, I had a chance to talk to OG Morse who, much to my embarrassment, lives nearby in West Redding, Conn. OG has had a career as a high-school teacher since 1959 here in Connecticut. He and Jane, who works with the Save the Children organization in Westport, have three daughters and a son—yes, the son is also named Ogden but known as "OO." In addition to teaching and serving as head of the English Department, OG has been involved with an SAT mail-order tutoring program and doing consulting work on integrating critical thinking skills and process writing into the classroom. The rest of the time he and Jane are involved with five grandchildren.

Also in West Redding is Ed Willi, who has been running a produce, honey, and beeswax importing business from his home for the past 20 years. According to Ed, the beeswax is used in cosmetics and as an industrial lubricant. He sources most of his line in South America, where he lived and worked for many years. Ed and his wife, Cecilia, whom Ed met in South America, are avid tennis players. Ed travels extensively and enjoys attending a business conference in Paris each fall. He stays in touch with Mike Gorton, another '55 in tire food business.

If you have sent in your contribution to this year's Alumni Fund, our thanks. If not, please get it in the mail soon.
