Gary Allen and John Manley were honored recently at the Boston celebration of Wearers of the Green. Their wives, Lucile and Carla, were on hand to add some glamour to the occasion, and other 1940s who cheered the Wearers were HowieStockwell Ted and Tweedy Miller, JoeBurnett, and Stet Whitcher.

Hugh Schwarz our head agent in the 19505, has kept a pretty low profile lately. However, a recent issue of Dartmouth Medicine (Winter 1993) shook him up because two of our renowned mountaineers, Chap Cranmer and the late George Sheldon, who participated in the famous assault on K2 in 1939, were referred to as members of the class of 1938. Hugh sent me a copy of his letter to the editor to correct the error.

Jack Fitzgerald gave a talk to students of U-Mass Boston on his Twelve Mayors of Boston1900-1970. According to Robert Hayden of U-Mass, who organized the session, the students were especially interested in and surprised by the large number of elected officials with non-Boston origins (often Ireland, no doubt).

Modern bungee-jumping is said to have originated in New Zealand. If you are more than 65 years old, you can go there for a free jump. The only classmate who has enjoyed this Freebee is Bill Coulson who wore a Dartmouth shirt during his descent.

Bud Hewitt continues his generous practice of sending 40 dollars to a charity or to the Alumni Fund in memory of each deceased classmate. During the last year there were 12 more.

Fifty-seven years ago when Chick Koop' 37 was a senior, there were two freshmen living across the corridor in Massachusetts Hall, Joe Burnett and Stet Whitcher Although Joe and Stet had not spoken with Chick since then, they met again at a "Breakfast with C. Everett koop." The conversation took off as if never interrupted at all.
