Every time I return to Hanover I am flooded with memories of the friends who meant so much to me when I was a Dartmouth student. At our 20th (19th) Reunion, I discovered what a pleasure it is to connect with classmates later in life. I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to serve as our class secretary between now and the year 2000.

More than 100 classmates returned for reunion, despite record-breaking heat and humidity (the thermometer in front of the Hanover Inn registered 105 degrees). On Friday a lunch for women graduates was hosted by Chris Nicholson '74. Seventy-fives attending included Gretchen Teichgraeber, LauraGordon Kutnick, Caroline Preston, CateMarlette Waddell, Kyle Hallsteen McRobie, and myself. With just 118 alumnae in the classes of '73 to '75, this lunch was a unique chance to meet, in some cases for the first time.

At our class dinner on Saturday night a new slate of officers was elected. Congratulations to President Jim Bildner Treasurer Mikael Salovaara, Head Agent Tom Wood, Alumni Council Rep Steve Gray, and Scott Lochridge and Sandy Tierney, co-reunion chairmen for the 25th Reunion. Thanks to Roger Clarkson and the previous slate of officers who served us well. My personal thanks to Blake Winchell who did a great job as secretary. Blake, I know we will all miss those quotes.

At our class dinner it was also announced that our reunion gift was $325,000. Jeff Little advised me that in my new capacity as class

secretary, I might want to issue challenges to the other classes! Thus, I proudly point out that our gift was more than the combined gifts from '73s and '74s. (Don't worry, Jeff, I Know

it was a joke.) In summer of 1993 Jeff successfully opened a new office for Tucker Anthony, an investment firm in Portsmouth, N.H. Jeff was previously with Dean Witter.'

Saturday-night entertainment in Spaulding Auditorium began with a concert by the bluegrass band Bitter Root, featuring our very own Dave Wendall, Scott Lochridge, BillMasters, Cameron Jones, and Eric Van Luven '74. This group was managed by DaveLampert and assisted by Frank Crowley, roadie. The last time Bitter Root played together was 23 years ago on the same stage, when they made a recording, with no audience. On Saturday night of reunions they played to a packed audience, and received a well-deserved standing ovation. Even Livingston Taylor was impressed; he followed Bitter Root with a superb concert.

On a sadder note, on Friday a memorial sculpture in remembrance of ThomasNicholson was installed on the front lawn of Beta. As most of you know, Nick passed away last year. Ed White, one of Nick's fraternity brothers and former president of Beta, commissioned the sculpture in Maine. The Nicholson Memorial is a beautiful granite pine stump with the inscription below: In Remembrance Thomas N. Nicholson IV Class of 1975 1953-1993 A Man and Loyal Son of DartmouthOn Whom She Can Her SpellIn Whom Her Spirit LivedHe Stood WatchHe Stood As Brother StandsBy Brother

Ed welcomes contributions to cover the cost of the Nicholson Memorial. Contributions of any size are appreciated, but $200 is the suggested amount. Money collected beyond the memorial's cost will be contributed to the Alumni Fund.

Please send checks to Nicholson Memorial, c/o Ed White, P.O. Box 783, Damriscotta, ME 04543.

In closing, I welcome calls and notes from all of you. Until we meet again.
