Looks like our class president, Bill Carpenter, is responsible (at least partly) for our Class Grandchild. So far as I know, his granddaughter, freshman Kelly Carpenter, is the first Dartmouth child of a classmate's son or daughter who also went to Dartmouth. Furthermore, the Dartmouth family members now span four generations: Bill's father Russell P. '23, Bill '50, his son Bill '74, and now Kelly '99. Kelly is a firstrate cross-country runner and opted for Dartmouth over Princeton (early decision) and several other schools. She's not the first Carpenter female to attend Dartmouth, though, as Bill's niece Connie Jones, now a physician in California, was in the class of '82. That's quite a legacy the Carpenters are constructing. (Sorry about that.)

If you get the Sunday'New York Times, you'll have spotted a couple of classmates in the magazine section a few months ago. Don Hall was featured in a long article about the history and current operations of Hallmark Cards. Eric Miller was one of several experts who were interviewed regarding the state and outlook of our national economy.

Speaking of reunions, our fall mini is comingupOctober 20-22. Giveitatry, especially if you haven't seen Hanover in the fall for a while.

You may have the word from elsewhere by now, but it looks like we've met our Alumni Fund goal for 1995 and probably have won the Green Derby (best of nearby classes) for the first time in some years. Kudos to Bob Kilmarx and our assisting class agents, and especially to all of you who contribute so generously.

Further on the subject of finances, anodier '50 first is in the works, and you'll be hearing more about it soon. Several classmates have come up with an innovative insurance plan as a part of our 50th Reunion gift to the College. It sounds to me like a relatively painless way to contribute some big bucks to the school.

At this writing (mid-July), Barbara and I are about to take off on a trip to Minnesota and northern Idaho (no, Joe, I'm not going out to join a militia) to visit sons. Which prompts me to suggest that you drop me a line to tell of places you've been, things you've seen, people you've visited, etc.
